TROUBLESHOOTING GUIDE

Theimage from this unit does not appearon the
television.
--> Make sure that t heT Vi s connected to the AV OUTPUT,
SCARTOUT or COMP OUT terminals on this unit .(refer t o
“CONNECTIONS”sect ion)
--> Make sure that the television’s input setting is correct.
--> Makesure that a disc is well-placed on the disc tray and is
compatible to the local TV system ( PAL)
--> Checkwhether the recorder is set to progressive with an
incompatibleTV. Reset by pressing [], “5,” “0,” “2,”and “0”
onthe remote control and then press [ENTER].
The image from this unit appearsw ith noises.
--> Thedisc is dist orted or flawed.
--> Ifthe picture output signal from the recorder passes through
yourVCR to get to your TV, or if you are connected to a
combinationT V/VIDEO player, t hecopy protec tion signal
appliedto some DVDprogramsc ould affectpict urequality. If
youstill experience this problem even when you connect your
recorderto your TV, try connect ing your recorder to your TV’s
S-VIDEOoutput.
Theimage from an external input is distorted.
--> Ifthe video signal from the external component is copy-
protected,you can not connect via the recorder. Connectthe
componentdirectly to yourTV.
Sound
Thereis no sound
--> Checkthe audio cable connection.
--> Checkif the audio cord is damaged.
--> Theinput source setting on theamplifier is incorrect.
--> There’sno sound when the picture is paused or during
scanning(even forwardsat regular playback speed) or slow
motionplay. Press [PLAY] to resume regular pl ayback.
--> If the audio signal does not c ome through the DIGITAL OUT
(OPTICAL or COAXIAL) jacks, check the AUDIO OUT se ttings.
Thesound from this unit is not presented prop-
erlyor is distorted.
--> Checkthe audio cable connection.
--> Checkif the audio cord is damaged.
--> Makesure that the amplifier/receiver or TV is set to the correct
inputand the volume is turned on.
--> Ifthe sound is distort ed, try cleaningthe cable plugs.
Playback
Can’tplayback a disc recorded using this re-
corderor another player
--> If the disc wasrecorded in video mode, makesure that it’s
finalized.
--> Some players will not play recordable DVDdiscs when
recorded in video mode and final ized.
--> Discs recorded with copy-onc e material cannot be played
onnon-CPRM compat ible players.
The recorderstarts playing the disc
automatically.
--> TheDVDVID EO features an auto playback function.
Recording
Can’tr ecord.
--> Youhaven’t inserted a disc or the disc you inserted cannot be
recordedon. Insert a disc the unit can record onto.
Ana lternate audio track cannot be recorded.
--> SecondAudio Program(SA P) is not availablefor all programs.
--> Therecorder does not feature“Second Audio Program (SAP)”
function.
Recordingdo es not start immediately after you
press [REC].
--> Discpreparation process is taking place and will take a short
while.(applicable to DVD+R/RW discs)
Can’trecord on HDD.
--> Ifthere is a power failure or the plug is disconnected from the
householdAC outlet while recording or editing, the HDDmay
becomeunusable.Youwillhavetogoto“DISCTOOLS”to
“Erase”the cont ents on the HDD. Data recovery is NOT
guaranteed.
TVchannel
TVch annelscannot be changed.
--> Switchthe input signal source of the recorder to “TV.”
--> Connectthe antenna cables correctly.
Others
The disc doesno t open/close.
--> Contactyour local dealer or local authorized s ervice facility.
The unitstops at “HELLO” and does not respond
toany other commands.
--> Turnthe unit off and turn it on again. If the unit st ill does not
respondto any commands, unplug the powercord, reconnect
itand turn it on again. Contact local dealer or authorized
servicefacility if the unit still does not work.
Ifyou forget the password...
-->Pl easeenter "8008" on password setting mode for pass-
word clear.
Timer Recording
Timerrecording does not work properly
--> Thetimer program is incorrect. Correct theprogram.
--> Differenttimerprogram times overlap.
--> Theclock set ting is wrong.Go to set up to set the right time and
date.
--> Analready finalized DVD+Rhas been inserted: change disc.
Thet imerp rogramremains even after recording
finishes.
--> Thetimer program remains if set to daily or weekly.
No playback on DVDrecorder.
--> There’s no recording on the disc. Check the disc first.
--> A unplaybackable disc type is inserted. Check the playable
disctype list.
--> The way you inserted the disc is wrong. Insert the disc
with the label side facing up. If t here’s no label on the disc,
check the disc retailer.
--> Wrong region code: The region code on the recorder and
thedi sc must match.
--> Par ental control is on: you hav e to unlock it first. (default
code of the recorder: 0000)
--> Check of the cables are s ecured between the TV set and
therecorder.
