7.3 Hydraulic System

A. Checking Hydraulic Oil Level

The hydraulic oil level should be checked after the first 10 hours of operation. Thereafter, check the oil after every 200 hours of machine operation or monthly, whichever occurs first.

- IMPORTANT -

If the oil level is consistently low, check for leaks and correct immediately.

1.Wipe dirt and contaminants from around the reservoir cap. Remove the cap from the hydraulic oil reservoir.

2.Visually check the level of hydraulic oil. Hydraulic oil must be at least 3" inches from top of the filler neck. If the level cannot be determined visually, use a clean tape measure to check the level. If the fluid is low, add 20W50 motor oil. DO NOT overfill; (overfilling the oil reservoir may cause oil seepage around the cap area).

3.Clean the fill cap and install it onto the reservoir.

- IMPORTANT -

The hydraulic oil should be changed if you notice the presence of water or a rancid odor to the hydraulic oil.

1.Park the mower on a level surface and stop the engine.

2.Place a suitable container under the hydraulic oil filter. Tilt the seat forward. Remove the fill cap from the reservoir and the drain plug from the bottom of the drain tee fitting on the front side of the filter base. See Figure 7-3. Allow the fluid to drain into the container and properly discard it.

B. Changing Hydraulic Oil

The hydraulic oil should be changed after every 500 hours or annually, whichever occurs first. The oil should also be changed if the color of the fluid has become black or milky. A black color and/or a rancid odor usually indicates possible overheating of the oil, and a milky color usually indicates water in the hydraulic oil.

3.Re-install the drain plug into the tee fitting and be sure it is tight.

- NOTE -

Before refilling the hydraulic oil reservoir the hydraulic oil filter should be changed as outlined in Procedure C "Changing Hydraulic Oil Filter Element" on page 32.

4.Fill the reservoir to 3-1/4" inches from the top of the filler neck with 20W50 motor oil.

5.Replace the reservoir fill cap. Start the engine and drive forward and backward for two minutes. Check the oil level in the reservoir. If necessary, add oil to the reservoir.

Scag Power Equipment has established itself as a leader in the outdoor power equipment industry, and its line of mowers, particularly the STC series, exemplifies premium engineering and cutting-edge technology. Among the standout models are the STC52V-23BV, STC52V-25CV-FR, STC52V-25CV, STC61V-23BV, and STC61V-25CV. Each model is designed to meet the diverse demands of commercial and residential landscaping, providing efficiency, performance, and durability.

The STC52V-23BV and the STC52V-25CV-FR are both equipped with powerful V-twin engines that deliver dependable performance under tough conditions. These engines are designed to provide high torque, enabling users to tackle tougher mowing tasks without sacrificing speed or efficiency. With a cutting deck width of 52 inches, the STC52V models offer excellent maneuverability while providing ample coverage for large lawns.

On the other hand, the STC61V-23BV and STC61V-25CV models feature an impressive 61-inch cutting deck, making them ideal for larger properties. The wider deck allows for more efficient mowing with fewer passes, ultimately saving time and reducing operator fatigue. Both models also boast V-twin engines, ensuring robust performance that can handle dense grass and uneven terrain with ease.

One of the significant characteristics of the STC series is Scag's innovative Velocity Plus cutting deck technology. This unique design enhances airflow beneath the deck, resulting in superior grass cutting and improved discharge. The deck's aerodynamic shape not only ensures a clean cut but also allows for better grass collection in conjunction with optional bagging systems.

Additionally, all STC models are built with operator comfort in mind. Ergonomically designed controls, spacious seating, and intuitive instrument panels enable operators to work efficiently without discomfort during extended periods. These mowers also come standard with heavy-duty frames and high-quality components that offer durability and long-lasting performance, even in the most demanding conditions.

Another noteworthy feature across the STC lineup is the ease of maintenance. Scag Power Equipment has designed these mowers with accessible components, making it easier for users to perform routine maintenance tasks. This focus on practicality ensures that owners can keep their equipment in optimum condition with minimal effort.

In conclusion, the Scag Power Equipment STC52V-23BV, STC52V-25CV-FR, STC52V-25CV, STC61V-23BV, and STC61V-25CV represent the pinnacle of performance, comfort, and durability in the commercial mower sector. With powerful engines, advanced cutting technology, and a focus on user experience, these mowers continue to set the standard for excellence in outdoor power equipment.
