General description

Barracuda 2, 2HP SCSI disc drives are high-speed, random-access data storage devices. Two-head par- allel technology effectively doubles the internal data transfer rate when compared to non-parallel head technologies.

ST12450W/WD drives are illustrated in Figure 1. Speci- fications and DC power requirements for the drives are listed in tables following the figure.

The drive is a component for installation in an enclosure designed for the drive. This is often a rack within the system or an external enclosure designed to house one or more disc drives or other peripheral units. In either case, the disc drive must receive adequate cooling (refer to “Providing adequate cooling”) and it must be suffi- ciently grounded and shielded from emissions. The Barracuda 2, 2HP Product Manual (part number 83328900) contains guidelines fora properly designed enclosure.
