Reset the speed control.

Start the walking belt.
After you have moved the speed controlto the
RESET position,slowly slide itupward until the
walking beltbegins to moveat slowspeed.
Carefully step ontothe walking belt and begin exer-
cising. Change the speed ofthe walking belt as de-
sired by sliding the speed control.
To stop the walking belt, step onto the foot railsand
slide the speed control to the RESET position.
Follow your progress with the monitor displays.
TIME display--This
display shows the total
timethat you have
walked or run on the
treadmill.
DISTANCE display--
This display shows the { !total distance that you 2._6
have walked or run. if o,sT,_,_ce
the KPH indicator be-
side the SPEED display
islit, the distance will be displayed inkilometers. If
the indicator is notlit, the distance will be displayed
inmiles.
SPEED display--This
displayshows thespeed
ofthe walking belt, in
miles per hour or kilome-
ters per hour. The KPH
indicator will light when
the speed isdisplayed in kilometers per hour.
To change the unit of measurement, hold down the
RESET button for seven seconds. The KPH indica-
tor willshow which unit of measurement is se-
lected.

fat calories you have
burned. (See FAT
BURNING onpage 14 for an explanation offat
calories.) Every seven seconds, the displaywill
change fromone number to the other. The FAT in-
dicatorwill light when the number of fat calories is
displayed. Note: This display will also show your
pulsewhen the pulsesensor is used.
The displays can be

Measure your pulse, if desired.
To use the pulse Pulse
sensor, stand on
the foot rails and
place your thumb
on the pulse sen-
sor as shown.
The pulse sensor

vated;fully press
downthe pulsesensor. Do not press too hard, or
the circulation In your thumb will be restricted,
and your pulse will
not be detected. Next,
slightlyraise your
thumb untilthe heart-
shaped indicatorby

steadily. Holdyour thumb at this level. After5 to 10
seconds, your pulse willbe shown. Hold your thumb
on the sensor for another 15 seconds for the most
accurate reading. If the displayed pulse appears to
be too high or too low, or if your pulse is not dis-
played, lift your thumb off the sensor and allow the
display to reset. Pressdown again on the sensor as
described above.
Make sure that your thumb is positioned as shown,
and that you are applying theproper amount of pres-
sureto the pulse sensor. Try the sensor several
timesuntil you become familiar with it. Remember to
standstillwhile measuring your pulse.
