HIGH TEHPERATURE SHUT OFF SYSTEH

This water heater is equippedwith an automatic gas shut offsys-

valve. This system shuts offthe gas supply to the water heater
burners when high water temperatures are present, it is non-
resettabte. If the high temperature shut off activates, the gas con-
trol valve must bereplaced. If this were to occur, turn "OFF" the
entire gas supply to the water heater. Contact the Sears Service
Center.
AVVARNING

turn "OFF" the manualgascontrolvalve to the appliance,
AWARNING
Due to the nature of the typical gas water heater, the
water temperature in certain situations may be hotter
thanthe thermostat setting.
Short, frequent draws ofhot water, especiallywith very
coldincoming water = can shockthe thermostat intobrief
operation resulting in hotter and hotter layers of water
closerto the top of the tank.
Changesin hotwater usagepatterns or raising the tem-
perature differential between the cut-on of the thermo-
statand the coldwater temperature will usuaih/eliminate
the problem.
NOT ENOUGH OR NO HOT WATER
"Check the manual gas shut offvalve to besure itis open.
i heck the pilot flame. Itmay havegone out. All models have
an opening behind the outer door for viewing thepilot,
If the pilot is not tit, follow the "Lighting" instructions in this
marmal or located above the gascontrol valve on the water
heater to relight thepilot. If the water was extremely hot and
is now cold, the high limit safety temperature shut off may
have put out the burner and pilot. Ifthe high temperature
shut off activates, the gas control valve must be replaced.
