Draft is the force which moves air from the appliance up through the chim ney. The am ount of draft in your chim ney depends on the size, height and general condition of your chim ney, local geography, nearby obstructions, and other factors. Inadequate draft will cause the appliance to leak sm oke into the room when starting a fire or adding fuel to the existing fire. Excessive draft, on the other hand, may cause excessive tem peratures in the appliance, burning the wood too quickly and dam aging the unit.
