Tips for a More Efficient Dictating

Before you start dictating

Organize your thoughts.

Make notes or an outline of what you want to dictate.

Check that the cassette is erased. (See page 21.)

When you start dictating

Identify yourself. (Name, department, phone number, etc.)

Indicate the type of dictating. (Memo, letter, etc.)

Give transcribing instructions. (Type of stationery, number of copies, envelopes, etc.)

Specify distribution. (Name, addresses, etc.)

During dictating

Relax and speak clearly, at normal speed.

Short sentences are best.

Include punctuation.

Spell difficult or unusual words.

Correct your mistakes. (Review and redictate.) (See page 15.)

At the end of each dictated material, record an LTR signal.
