The 2 x 30-V current alone is first pre-regulated to 33 V and then reduced to 30 V in order to filter out the last remnants of hum. This task is handled by select 1000-µF electrolytic capacitors. In addition, critical currents are stabilized via a 100-nF MKP foil condenser, to ensure sufficient current for even the shortest impulses. The transformer is encompassed by double shielding to keep magnetic stray fields to an absolute minimum.
In our humble opinion, the time and energy invested in the deve- lopment of the GainStation 1 was well worth it. The result is an extremely compact, unusually flexible preamplifier that delivers audio quality usually found only in units costing much more. We believe we just may have set a new record in the sound per cubic centimeter category.
