OPERATION
Automatic Pilot Valve
The Automatic Pilot Valve provides an automatic safety shutoff for the fryer when the pilot flame is
extinguished. When the pilot flame is burning, the valve is held open electromagnetic ally by the electrical
current from a thermopile in the pilot flame. When the pilot flame goes out, generatio n of c urrent ceases and
the valve closes automatically.
High Limit Control
The 4FR-45 Restaurant Range Fryer is equipped with a secondary heat control that preve nts the oil
temperature from rising above 450°F. (Because of the accuracy toleranc e of the s ensor, the oil tem perature
may reach as high as 475°F.)
In the event the fryer shuts down due to this condition, the oil must be coo led to belo w 400°F b efor e the pilot
burner can be re-ignited. When the oil has cooled, use the “ Li ght ing” pr ocedure on page 12 to place the f r yer
back in operation. If the problem persists, contact your So uthbend S ervice Represent ative or the Southbe nd
Service Department.

In the event a gas odor is detected, shut down equipment at the com bination gas va lve and contact
the local gas company or gas supplier for service.
