Preface

The Sun™ Dual Port 4x IB Host Channel Adapter PCI-X Installation and User’s Guide provides installation instructions for the Sun Dual Port 4x IB Host Channel Adapter PCI-X card. This manual includes an overview of the adapter, supported platforms, cable information, and related documentation.

These instructions are designed for system administrators with experience installing network hardware and software.

Note – The Sun Dual Port 4x IB Host Channel Adapter PCI-X card is an InfiniBand (IB) host channel adapter (HCA) card. The adapter is referred to as IB-HCAin this manual.

How This Book Is Organized

The manual is organized as follows:

Chapter 1 provides a description of the adapter.

Chapter 2 details how to install the adapter card and cables, and how to verify the installation.

Chapter 3 contains information for configuring Internet Protocol over InfiniBand (IPoIB).

Chapter 4 gives an overview of the InfiniBand software.

Appendix A contains information on the InfiniBand cable and connector pin outs.

Appendix B provides an overview of the SunVTS™ diagnostic software and the ibhcatest test. The appendix also includes some troubleshooting tasks.
