Power over Ethernet

Power over Ethernet (PoE) technology describes a system to transmit electrical power, along with data, to remote devices over standard twisted-pair cable in an Ethernet network. This technology is useful for powering IP telephones, wireless LAN access points, network cameras, remote network switches, embedded computers, and other appliances where it would be inconvenient, expensive, or infeasible to supply power separately. The technology is somewhat comparable to POTS telephones, which also receive power and data (although analog) through the same cable. It works with an unmodi￿ed Ethernet cabling infrastructure.

PSE

PD

Power Sourcing Equipment (PSE) is a device (switch or hub for instance)

A Powered Device (PD) is a device powered by a PSE and thus consumes

that will provide power in a PoE setup. Maximum allowed continuous

energy. Examples include wireless access points etc.. The IEEE 802.3af

output power per such device in IEEE 802.3af is 15.40W.

standard speci￿es a maximum power usage of 12.95W.

8-port 10/100M Desktop PoE Switch

TL-SF1008P

TL-SF1008P is an 8 10/100M ports unmanaged switch that requires no con￿guration and provides 4 PoE (Power over Ethernet) ports. It can automatically detect and supply power with all IEEE 802.3af compliant Powered Devices (PDs). In this situation, the electrical power is transmitted along with data in one single cable allowing you to expand your network where there are no power lines or outlets, where you wish to ￿x devices such as APs, IP Cameras or IP Phones, etc.

Complies with IEEE802.3, IEEE802.3u, IEEE802.3af standards

8 10/100Mbps Auto-Negotiation RJ45 ports with 4-port PoE function (port-1 to port-4)

Supports priority function to protect the system if there is a power surge

Supports IEEE 802.3af PoE compliant PDs(Powered Devices)

Supports IEEE802.3x ￿ow control for Full-duplex Mode and backpressure for Half-duplex Mode
