Answering system operation

Turn the answering system on or off

The answering system must be turned on to answer and record messages.
Press /ANS ON/OFF on the telephone base to turn th e built-in answering
system on or off.

Record your own announcement with a handset

You can use the preset announcement to answer calls, or replace it w ith your own
recorded announcement. It can be up to 90 se conds in length.
Press MENU when the phone is not in use.
Scroll to Answering sys and then press SELECT twice.
The handset announces, “To play, press 2. To record, press 7.” Press 7 to record.
The handset announces, “Record after the to ne. Press 5 when you are done.”
After the tone, speak towards the handset micropho ne. Press 5 when done.

Message playback at the telephone base

Press /PLAY when the phone is not in use.
Options during playback:
Press q/VOL or VOL/p to adjust the speaker volume.
Press /SKIP to skip to the nex t message.
Press /REPEAT to repeat the message cur rently playing. Press /REPE AT
twice to listen to the previous message.
Press X/DELETE to delete the playing m essage. The system advances to the
next message.
Press /STOP to stop.

Delete all messages at the telephon e base

Press X/DELETE twice whe n the phone is not in use.

Call intercept

If you want to talk to the person whose message is being recorded, press /HOME
or on the handset.
Add and register a handset
The handsets provided with your telephone system are alr eady registered. Each
handset is assigned a number that displays on the ha ndset. Additional handsets
registered to the telephone system are assigned numb ers in the sequential order.
This telephone system accommodates up to ve hands ets.
You can add new handsets (DS6501/DS6501-12/DS6 501-15/DS6501-16,
purchased separately) to your telephone system. Each hand set must be registered
with the telephone base before use. When rst purc hased and properly charged,

Charge the handset before registering it to the telep hone base.
To register a handset:
Place the new/non-registered handset in the telep hone base.
Wait for about 10 seconds. The handset shows Registering... then Registered
and you hear a beep when the registration process completes. The registration
process takes about 90 seconds to complete.
Replace a handset
If you want to replace a handset or reassign the designate d handset number of a
registered handset, you must deregister all handset s and then individually register
each handset.
To deregister all handsets:
Press and hold /FIND HANDSET on the te lephone base for about 10 seconds
until the IN USE light on the telephone base tur ns on and starts ashing.
Immediately press /FIND HANDSET again. You must press /FIND HANDSET
while the IN USE light is still ashing. The IN USE light ashes for approximately
ve seconds.
All handsets show To register HS... and ...see manual alternately when the
deregistration process completes. The deregistration process takes about
10 seconds to complete.
