Solving laundering problems

Most laundering problems are easily solved if you understand the cause. Check the following list for problems you may have and possible causes. If you need additional help, check the ‘Assis- tance or Service” section of this book.

PROBLEM

Brown, yellow stains

Dye transfer

Gray whites, dingy colors

Greasy looking spots

Lint

Load too wet after spin

Shrinking

Snags, rips, holes

Stiff, rough fabrics (usually cottons)

Twisting, tangling

Wrinkling

Yellow areas (from body oils)

CAUSE

l Chlorine staining

lIron in water heater or pipes

lIron and manganese in water

l Improper sorting

lLoad not immediately removed from washer after end of cycle

l Improper sorting

l Water temperature too low

lNot enough detergent

lUsing soap in very hard water (use detergent if you have hard water)

lUndiluted fabric softener or fabric softener poured directly on load l Fabric softener in wash water

l Not enough detergent

l Improper sorting

lPaper or tissue in pockets

lPilling being mistaken for lint l Overloading

l Not enough detergent l Clogged lint filter

lCold rinses

lLid is opened before spinning is completed

l Fabric type (some knits stretch during manufacturing-laundering returns , fabric to original size)

l Care label directions not followed

lItems damaged before washing l Misuse of chlorine bleach

l Sharp articles not removed from pockets l Overloading

l Fasteners not fastened

lUsing soap in very hard water (use detergent if you have hard water) l Not enough detergent

l Line drying

lOverloading

lImproper loading (do not wrap large items around agitator)

lOverloading

lLoad not immediately removed from washer after end of cycle l Improper rinse temperature

l Cycle selection is incorrect (based on fabric type)

l Water temperature too low

lNot enough detergent
