Lexmark Embedded Solutions Framework
Using this framework, Lexmark can write and deploy Java applications that run inside the device, and provide a variety of functions. Developers must have the LESF Software Developer’s Kit to create applications. As of the date of this device’s announce; only Lexmark can create these applications.
Lexmark Embedded Document Accounting Solution
The Lexmark Document Accounting Solution is an integrated MFP solution that combines print, copy, scan, fax and email into a total cost recovery system. This includes the following.
•Card swipe user authentication
•Pay4Print and Copy
•Staff cost accounting
•Print release station
•Full integration into the online or offline card system of your choice.

Lexmark Embedded Scan to Folder
This embedded application will enhance the standard “scan to folder” functionality of this device. In addition to “Scan to FTP”, the MFP user can scan to a Window’s network folder. Administrators can create folder destinations, and users can select their desired destination, browse folders, and create folders. This embedded application must be downloaded (at no additional charge), and installed on the device.
Drag’N’PrintTM Utility
The Lexmark Drag’N’Print Utility that is included allows the printing of PDF files directly to the X854e without an application or printer driver by simply dragging and dropping the file onto the MFP icon.
ScanBackTM Utility
The X854e that is included is compatible with the Lexmark ScanBack Utility that can be used to scan files back to the PC. ScanBack profiles can be accessed through the "Profiles" hard button.
Flexible Security
•Password protection can be set to control access individually for paper, defaults, reports, network and shortcut settings.
•Lexmark’s Print and Hold feature allows jobs to be held and printed later after entering a
PIN
•Authentication
•Four modes set for each function (copy, fax, e- mail, profiles and forms)
−Function Off – no one has access
−Function On – everyone has access
−User ID – requires user name to access
−User Authentication – requires user name and password to access
¾Three sources for authentication (global selection)
−LDAP – uses the company’s LDAP database directory
−NT/Windows 2000 – uses the company’s NT/Windows 2000 domain
−Internal – uses an internal list stored in the MFP, generated by the system administrator
