-Install the Tivoli Storage Manager client or Tivoli Storage Manager data protection application client, and the Tivoli Storage Manager API. Specify the LAN-free option.

-Install and set up the storage agent.

IBM Tivoli Storage Manager Server: Defining the storage agent and configuring devices

-If your environment is using tape devices, configure the library and drives on the SAN.

-If your environment is using disk devices, configure Enterprise Management and define the FILE device class. See “Step 2.2 IBM Tivoli Storage Manager Server: Defining the Storage Agent and Configuring Devices” on page 24 for instructions on configuring Enterprise management.

v Step 3: Configuring devices for the storage agent to access

Tape devices.

Disk devices.

v Step 4: (z/OS only) Formatting Volumes for LAN-free data movement. Volumes

for sequential access storage pools that support LAN-free data movement using

the z/OS data manager server require formatting before they can be used.

LAN-free sessions will fail if the storage pool does not contain any formatted

volumes and does not allow automatic formatting.

v Step 5: Starting the storage agent and verifying the LAN-free configuration

– Start the storage agent.

– Verify the LAN-free configuration.

Step 1. Verifying the Network Connection

The server system and the client systems must be attached to the SAN along with

appropriate storage devices. The server system and the client systems must also be

connected by means of a LAN.

The Tivoli Storage Manager for Storage Area Networks feature requires specific

levels and models of hardware and software. Ensure that your system

configuration meets the hardware and software requirements for the SAN setup.

Note: If you will be using a storage agent with disk media, you must install Tivoli

SANergy or IBM TotalStorage SAN File System on the applicable machines.

Tivoli SANergy is included with the storage agent media. Note that the use

of the Tivoli SANergy components included with the IBM Tivoli Storage

Manager for Storage Area Networks product is limited to use to enable

LAN-free backup and restore to disk in conjunction with your licensed use

of the IBM Tivoli Storage Manager for Storage Area Networks product. See

Figure 5 on page 9 for possible Tivoli SANergy configurations. See the IBM

Tivoli SANergy Administrator’s Guide for details.
