Connecting the VS-66FW

5.4.1Setting the MACHINE #

The MACHINE # determines the position of a VS-66FWunit, specifying which VS-66FWunit is being controlled when several VS-66FWunits connect to a PC or serial controller. Set the MACHINE # on a VS-66FWunit via DIPS 1, 2, 3 and 4, according to Table 4.

When using a stand-alone VS-66FWunit, set the MACHINE # to 1. When connecting more than one VS-66FWunit, set the first machine that is closest to the PC, as MACHINE # 1.

5.5 Connecting the REMOTE Connector

Connecting dry contact-closure switches to the REMOTE connector lets you duplicate the actions of the front panel LEAF-BRANCH buttons when switching a BRANCH FireWire device to a LEAF FireWire device, from a distance of up to 1000 meters. Figure 7 illustrates how to connect the remote push buttons:
