Learning the Commands of Other Remote Controllers

The DV-SP1000/DV-SP1000E’s remote controller can learn individual commands from other component’s remote controllers and then be used to control those components. Commands can be learnt by the dedicated leaning buttons—[L1], [L2], [L3], and [L4]—or any but- ton. Each button can learn up to four commands, one for each remote controller mode: DVD, Amp, VCR, and TV. If you’ve entered a control code for a component (page 86) and certain buttons don’t work as expected, you can also use this function to program those buttons individually.

1 Point the remote controllers at each other, about 2 to 6 inches (5–15 cm) apart.

2 While holding down the [DVD], [AMP], [VCR], or [TV] MODE button, press the [ON] button, and then release both but- tons.

The MODE button and Tx/Learn indicator light up.

3 On the DV-SP1000/DV-SP1000E’s remote controller, press the button that you want to learn the new command.

The Tx/Learn indicator goes off while the button is being pressed, and comes back on again when it’s released.

Use the dedicated leaning buttons—[L1], [L2], [L3], and [L4]—or another button.

4 On the other remote controller, press and hold the button whose command you want to learn until the Tx/Learn indicator flashes.

If the command is learnt successfully, the Tx/ Learn indicator flashes slowly twice, and then the MODE button and Tx/Learn indicator remain lit. If the Tx/Learn indicator flashes quickly three times, the command has not been learnt, in which case you should try again from step 3.

If the Tx/Learn indicator flashes quickly six times, the remote controller’s memory is full and no more commands can be learnt.

5 To learn more new commands, repeat steps 3 and 4.

When you’ve finished, press the MODE button that you pressed in step 2.

To use the learnt command, select the relevant mode, and then press the button.

Notes:

The following buttons cannot learn new commands: [LIGHT] and the [DVD], [AMP], [VCR], and [TV] MODE buttons.

Learning mode is cancelled automatically if you don’t press any buttons for 30 seconds.

The DV-SP1000/DV-SP1000E’s remote controller comes preprogrammed with the commands necessary for controlling Onkyo DVD players (DVD mode) and AV receivers (Amp mode). However, you can repro- gram individual buttons if necessary. The original commands can be restored by resetting the remote controller.

To program a button that has already learnt a com- mand, repeat this procedure. The previously learnt command will be overwritten.

Like most remote controllers, the DV-SP1000/ DV-SP1000E’s remote controller uses infrared. Com- mands from remote controllers that don’t use infrared cannot be learnt.

When the remote controller’s batteries expire, all learnt commands may be lost and will have to be learnt all over again, so keep your other remote controllers in a safe place.
