General description

Barracuda 4 disc drives are high-speed data storage devices. There are several models of this disc drive (see Figure 1, 2, or 3). Specifications and power require- ments for the drives are listed following the figures.

The drive is a component for installation in an enclosure designed for the drive. This is often a rack within the system or an external enclosure designed to house one or more disc drives. In either case, the disc drive must receive adequate cooling (refer to “Providing adequate cooling”) and it must be sufficiently grounded and shielded from emissions. The Barracuda 4 Product Manual (part number 83328880) contains guidelines for a properly designed enclosure.
