APPENDIX D: Check that the Selected HQ Site has a STATIC WAN IP Address

Determine if the selected HQ Plus site has a STATIC WAN IP address or a registered DNS name, that can be used by an Internet user to access devices (HQ Pluses) that are located behind the gateway/router at the HQ Plus site.

TO VERIFY:

1.Check with the ISP. An assigned Static IP is provided at extra cost to the user. Business operations that provide outside customers with access to company servers have a static IP or a registered DNS name for this purpose.

2.To confirm that the WAN IP address is STATIC, log into the gateway/router and check that the WAN IP setup is set for static operation.

3.Determine that a static IP is entered (for example, 67.123.45.76).

4.Make a note of this IP, then log out. Reset the gateway/router if possible.

5.Access the site www.whatismyip.com .The result from www.whatismyip.com must match the IP address that is entered as the static IP in the gateway/router — these results should ALWAYS come back the same.
