Firewall Port Forwarding

Firewall Port Forwarding controls inbound traffic originating from outside of your local area network. The Port Forwarding screen allows you to enable or disable Port Forwarding and to add or delete services. Port Forwarding allows you to direct requests for any particular service (e.g., HTTP, FTP,) to a particular IP address on your LAN.

To access the Port Forwarding panel, click the link Port Forwarding on the green tab.

Additional Protocol Support

Many network applications use complex schemes of port allocation that make them hard to support through a NAT firewall. The current version of WebShare supports some well-known complex protocols, such as FTP and PPTP, but omits others. Knowledgeable users should be able to set up custom rules that make it possible to support other protocols.

Enabling/Disabling Port Forwarding

Port forwarding controls may be turned on/off by selecting the Enable or Disable option buttons. When Port Forwarding is enabled, the firewall directs specified inbound traffic types to specific users (IP addresses). Disabling Port Forwarding prevents any unsolicited inbound service request from reaching your LAN.

NOTE: Disabling Port Forwarding is necessary when turning off the firewall feature. (See “Turning the Firewall Off” on page 46.)
