Plan your MP modem installation

This section guides you through the decisions you need to make before you begin the installation.

Where do you want to install your MP modem?

The MP modem can be installed in a vehicle or in an office. The same installation steps apply with the following exceptions:

If you are installing the MP modem in a vehicle:

·Use the power harness to connect the MP modem to the vehicle battery.

·Decide how to set the ignition sense option for powering the MP modem on and off (that is, depending on the ignition switch wiring, the MP modem can be turned on when the engine is started, when the ignition is in accessory mode, or independently of the ignition).

If you are installing the MP modem in an office, an AC/DC adapter is available.

What type of connection(s) do you plan to use?

The MP modem is capable of the following kinds of network connections:

Serial

USB

Ethernet

Wireless Access Point via IEEE 802.11b/g (MP W only)

Data transfer rates vary, depending on the network, but note that the highest data rate using a serial connection is

115.2 kbps.
