Coin-Cell Battery

Removing the Coin-Cell Battery

CAUTION: Before you begin any of the procedures in this section, follow the safety instructions in the Product Information Guide.

NOTICE: To avoid electrostatic discharge, ground yourself by using a wrist grounding strap or by periodically touching an unpainted metal surface (such as a connector on the back of the computer).

NOTICE: To help prevent damage to the system board, you must remove the battery from the battery bay before you begin working inside the computer.

Removing the Coin-Cell Battery

1.Follow the procedures in Before You Begin.

2.Remove the hinge cover (see Removing the Hinge Cover).

3.Remove the keyboard (see Removing the Keyboard).

4.Disconnect the coin-cell battery cable from the system board.

5.Remove the battery from the compartment on the system board by using a scribe or small screwdriver to lift one side of the battery at the notch in the plastic connector, being careful not to break the plastic.

6.Grasp the battery and pull it out of the battery compartment.

7.To install the coin-cell battery:

a.Insert the edge of the coin-cell battery into the plastic battery compartment under the lip on the compartment.

b.Carefully press the coin-cell battery into the compartment, being careful not to break the plastic.

8.Replace the keyboard (see Replacing the Keyboard).

9.Replace the hinge cover (see Replacing the Hinge Cover).
