CHAPTER 2

Installing the Switch Hardware

This chapter describes how to install the Alteon Web switch in a rack or on a table.

Included Items

Your Web switch is shipped with the following items:

νTwo mounting brackets (for rack mounting)

νSix Phillips screws for installing the mounting brackets

νFour rubber feet (for tabletop placement of the switch)

νAC power cord (only for AC-powered models)

νA console cable

NOTE The console cable is not intended for permanent installation and should be discon- nected from the console port after configuring the switch.

Preparing for Installation

Switch installation involves the following tasks:

1.Choosing a suitable location to install the switch.

2.Unpacking the switch from the box.

3.Turning the power switch to the OFF (O) position.

4.Mounting the switch.

5.Connecting the power inlet of the Web switch to the appropriate power source.

6.Connecting network cables to the switch.
