XA200 Owner’s Manual

The XA200 has a massive toroidal transformer coupled to a high current DC reservoir. Recognizing that the XA200’s ability to resolve microdynamics is best experienced with clean power, the extreme low- level resolution of the XA-series benefits from a specially designed power supply that significantly reduces and rejects power line borne noise.

The XA amps open the sonic soundstage to the very limits of the re- cording format. Through the XA200 complex musical passages reveal themselves in the most dramatic manner. With the XA200 you will hear everything within the upper octaves, which includes any record- ing, source or loudspeaker issues. Keep this in mind when choosing complementary equipment, remembering that recordings and the other components in the signal chain will strongly dictate soundstage width and imaging and likely be the limiting factors in your listening environment. The room itself will also add its acoustic signature, and should be considered an audio component.

Speaker selection should be strictly a matter of personal taste. The XA200 is unconditionally stable into any load presented by a loud- speaker, but will provide less power into other than 8 ohms. The XA200 accommodates both single ended (RCA) and balanced inputs (XLR). Input impedance’s are 11 kohm unbalanced and 22 kohm balanced to permit integration with the widest possible range of up- stream components.

You can position this amplifier anywhere you wish, but it must have ventilation. We do not recommend placing it in enclosed cabinets or small closets without means for air to circulate freely. Stacking these power amplifiers directly upon each other is not recommended for the same reason. This amplifier idles at approximately 650 watts, the equivalent of a small hand held hair dryer. At idle most of that en- ergy is dissipated across the heat sinks, so the heat generated by each XA200 is equivalent to a small hair dryer. To dissipate this heat the product should have about 6 inches clearance to the top and sides for adequate air circulation.

Let’s talk about power requirements. The amplifier draws about 5-1/2 amps (continuous rms) at 120 volts out of the wall during operation, and this reflects mostly the idle current that we run through the output stage. When not actually intending to play music the XA200 should be left in standby mode. In standby mode it draws only a few watts of power, that necessary to keep the capacitors charged.

XA200 specifications

The Pass Labs XA200 is a distinguished power amplifier that is acclaimed for its exceptional performance and remarkable build quality. Designed for audiophiles who demand the highest fidelity in their audio systems, the XA200 offers a unique blend of power, clarity, and musicality that sets it apart from the competition.

At the heart of the XA200 is a Class A topology, renowned for its ability to deliver pure and uncolored sound. This design ensures that the amplifier operates in its most linear region, providing a smooth and accurate response across the frequency spectrum. With an impressive output of 200 watts per channel into 8 ohms, and effectively doubling that power into 4 ohms, the XA200 is capable of driving even the most demanding loudspeakers with ease.

One of the standout features of the XA200 is its innovative use of the Pass Labs’ patented Feedforward error correction technology. This groundbreaking approach reduces distortion to extremely low levels, enabling the XA200 to produce a highly detailed and transparent soundstage. Additionally, the amplifier employs a combination of high-quality components, including custom-designed power supply transformers and large reservoir capacitors, to ensure stable operation under various load conditions.

The build quality of the XA200 is also noteworthy. Encased in a robust chassis with a striking aesthetic, this amplifier not only looks elegant but is designed to minimize vibration and resonance. The dual mono configuration of the XA200 ensures that each channel operates independently, further enhancing the overall sound quality and separation of instruments.

In terms of connectivity, the XA200 is equipped with balanced XLR inputs and single-ended RCA inputs, allowing for versatile integration into different audio setups. It also features a switching power supply that enhances its efficiency, ensuring that the amplifier remains cool even during extended listening sessions.

Overall, the Pass Labs XA200 is a testament to the brand’s commitment to excellence in high-end audio. Its combination of power, advanced technologies, and impeccable build quality makes it an ideal choice for audiophiles seeking a rich and immersive listening experience. Whether used in a dedicated home theater or a refined stereo system, the XA200 stands ready to reveal the true potential of any musical recording.
