ENCLOSURES

ENCLOSURE INFORMATION

Phoenix Gold subwoofers are overbuilt in virtually every way conceivable. It is important that the subwoofer’s enclosure is built to these same exacting standards. The enclosure must be constructed of at least .75 inch MDF for 10 and 12 inch subwoofers or .625 MDF for 8 inch subwoofers. Screws or air staples are excellent construction fasteners when used with a strong bonding “yellow” wood working glue that can fill joint gaps. Be sure that the enclosure’s panels are airtight at all joining seams. Lining the walls with a polyester matting 1 to 3 inches thick is sufficient.

Your PG dealer has extensive knowledge, tools and the experience needed for the design and construction necessary for your subwoofer application. We also recommend you consult with your dealer for specific technical assistance related to your installation. The charts provided should be used as a reference when building an enclosure for your subwoofer. The charts contain several enclosure types. The Sound Quality enclosure provides deeper, tighter, and more musical output to truly reproduce the original source material. The SPL enclosure fits the “basshead’s” need for maximum output while sacrificing some sound quality.

The normal enclosure is a balance between SPL and SQ.

Additional Notes:

-For vented enclosures a subsonic filter set at 30Hz to 40Hz is highly recommended.

-Sealed enclosure volumes INCLUDE THE DISPLACEMENT of the subwoofer.

-Vented enclosure volumes INCLUDE THE DISPLACEMENT of the subwoofer. But DO NOT include displacement of the vent.

-In many cases, a 4 inch round (3 or 2 inch for SX18s4) vent/port can be used instead of a rectangle/slot vent. This can reduce the vent length and simply the enclosure construction. However, in some rare cases at high power a small amount of port noise maybe audible. The provided slot/rectangle ports will provide maximum performance and the most predictable results. Contact technical support for additional enclosure options.

Phoenix Gold is a renowned name in the car audio industry, celebrated for delivering high-performance sound solutions that cater to audiophiles and casual listeners alike. Among its impressive lineup, the SX series stands out, featuring models such as the SX110D4, SX110D2, SX112D2, SX18S4, and SX112D4. Each of these subwoofers exhibits unique characteristics and advanced technologies designed for peak performance and durability.

The SX110D4 and SX110D2 are particularly noteworthy for their compact design and robust build quality. Both models are equipped with dual voice coils, with the D4 operating at 4 ohms and the D2 at 2 ohms, allowing for flexibility in various wiring configurations. Their 10-inch cone provides deep bass response while minimizing distortion, thanks to the high-quality polypropylene cone material. The powerful 300 watts RMS power handling allows these subwoofers to deliver impressive performance in smaller spaces.

Moving to the SX112D2 and SX112D4 models, these 12-inch subwoofers take bass output to the next level. Similar to their 10-inch counterparts, they feature dual voice coil configurations, with the D2 version rated at 2 ohms and the D4 at 4 ohms. Offering 400 watts RMS power handling, these subwoofers excel in delivering a rich and immersive listening experience. Their larger cone area increases air displacement, resulting in a deeper bass that can fill even the largest vehicles.

For those seeking ultimate low-end performance, the SX18S4 is the largest subwoofer in the series. With an 18-inch cone and 1000 watts RMS power handling, it is engineered for serious bass enthusiasts who demand the most from their audio systems. The robust construction incorporates a high-temperature voice coil and a reinforced surround, ensuring longevity and performance under high power loads. It is designed for both sealed and ported enclosure options, providing flexibility in installation.

Lastly, the SX112D4 continues the trend of high-efficiency and powerful performance. With a similar power rating to the SX112D2, this model also features a 12-inch cone but is optimized for different impedance arrangements, allowing users to choose the best option for their amplifiers or systems.

Overall, the Phoenix Gold SX series subwoofers combine cutting-edge technology, impressive power handling, and solid construction for an enhanced listening experience. Whether for daily driving or competitive audio setups, these models deliver thrilling performance that satisfies the demands of any bass lover.
