All alarm contact connections in the steps below should be made using standard 18 AWG insulated conductors. Insert the conductor in the terminal block then use a flat-head screwdriver to secure the connection.

1.Connect the NO (Normally Open) alarm contact of the MAIN TRACER BBP (labeled 1 below) to the MN alarm contact in the IN alarm block of the TRACER MPS (labeled 2 below). The TRACER BBP provides two sets of alarm contacts; for normal configuration, use the NO located in the MAJ (Major Alarm) block.

Only the TRACER 2603 BBP provides the optional MIN (Minor Alarm) terminal block. Connecting the MIN alarm contacts allows the TRACER MPS to perform a system switch when a minor alarm condition occurs. Please refer to the TRACER 2603 User Manual (ADTRAN P/N 61280003L1-1) for a detailed listing of major and minor alarms.

2.Connect the COM (Common) alarm contact of the MAIN TRACER BBP (labeled 3 below) to the COM alarm contact in the IN alarm block of the TRACER MPS (labeled 4 below). Repeat this step for the STANDBY TRACER BBP.

3.Connect the NO alarm contact of the STANDBY TRACER BBP to the SB alarm contact in the IN alarm block of the TRACER MPS (labeled 5 below).

4.(OPTIONAL) Connect the TRACER MPS alarm contacts (NO, COM, NC) in the OUT alarm block (labeled 6 below) to your external alarm monitoring system. Failure to follow this step will not affect TRACER MPS redundancy operation.

Protection Switch specifications

ADTRAN Protection Switch is an innovative solution designed to enhance network reliability and resilience through effective protection and failover mechanisms. This cutting-edge technology is primarily utilized in telecommunications and data networks, ensuring continuous service availability even in the face of failures or disruptions.

One of the standout features of the ADTRAN Protection Switch is its ability to provide seamless protection switching between primary and backup paths. Leveraging advanced algorithms, the system can detect any failures in the primary data path and automatically reroute traffic to a predefined backup path within milliseconds. This instantaneous failover capability minimizes downtime and ensures that critical data traffic continues to flow without interruption.

The ADTRAN Protection Switch employs various technologies to achieve high levels of performance and reliability. Among these, the use of Ethernet, MPLS (Multiprotocol Label Switching), and fiber optics allows for high-speed data transmission and improved bandwidth utilization. The integration of these technologies ensures that organizations can maintain performance standards in demanding environments.

Another essential characteristic of the ADTRAN Protection Switch is its scalability. The modular design allows for easy expansion and integration with existing network infrastructures. As organizations grow and their network needs change, the protection switch can be adjusted to accommodate increased traffic loads or additional service requirements without requiring a complete overhaul of the system.

Moreover, the ADTRAN Protection Switch supports advanced management features, including network monitoring and diagnostics. Users can access real-time performance analytics and alerts, empowering network administrators to proactively address potential issues before they affect service quality. This comprehensive management capability ensures consistent network performance and facilitates prompt troubleshooting.

In addition to its robust technical features, the ADTRAN Protection Switch is designed with redundancy in mind. Dual power supplies and redundant components ensure that the device remains operational even if one part fails. This level of reliability is crucial for organizations that cannot afford outages, especially those in critical sectors like healthcare, finance, or emergency services.

Ultimately, the ADTRAN Protection Switch represents a significant advancement in network protection technology. With its state-of-the-art features, adaptability, and commitment to reliability, it provides organizations with the confidence that their data services will remain uninterrupted, even in the face of unexpected events. This makes it an invaluable asset in today's increasingly interconnected digital landscape.
