Selecting Format/Verify causes the AHA-1740A/1742A/1744 to send a SCSI Format Unit command to the selected disk drive which performs a low-level format of the disk. When the SCSI Format Unit command is complete, the SCSI Verify command is sent to verify the data on the media.

WARNING

Selecting Erase Boot Sector causes the host adapter card to write data to the boot sector of the selected disk drive. This destroys the boot record and partition table for the disk drive, and makes any data on the disk drive unavailable.
