Preliminary knowledge

1OPEN/CLOSE button (23) Opens and closes the disc tray.

2Numeric buttons (14)

Used to select a selection, as well as used to enter a time for the Time search and a chapter number for the Chapter search.

3RETURN button (26)

Returns to the previous menu (for DVD VIDEO/Video CD/ SVCD).

4TOP MENU button (26)

Displays the top menu of a DVD VIDEO disc on the TV screen.

5 5 UP, DOWN, 2 LEFT, 3 RIGHT (CURSOR) buttons Used to select an item form a menu or on-screen display, or to change the setting of an item in the on-screen display.

In this manual, we sometimes call them “CURSOR” buttons.

6CHOICE button (45)

Displays the preference on-screen display on the TV screen.

7 4/PREVIOUS button (24, 25, 27, 42)

Skips back a chapter, title or track. Also used for the page selection of a menu screen (for DVD VIDEO/Video CD/ SVCD).

Holding down this button during playback reverses playback rapidly (except MP3 CD).

8 7/CLEAR button (24, 32, 42, 43)

Stops playback. Also used to erase all the programmed selection for the program play.

9 1/SLOW– button (24, 31, 42)

Pressing this button during playback reverses playback rapidly (except MP3 CD).

With an MP3 CD disc, pressing this button skips back a Group.

Pressing this button while a DVD VIDEO disc is paused reverses playback slowly.

0PLAY MODE button (28, 32, 33, 34, 42, 43, 44) Displays an on-screen display for controlling the advanced playback functions.

-SUBTITLE button (36)

Used to display the subtitle selection display on the TV screen, as well as used to turn the subtitle on or off (for DVD VIDEO/SVCD).

=3D PHONIC button (38)

Produces a simulated surround effect.

~DIGEST button (29)

Displays beginning scenes of each title, chapter or track on the TV screen (for DVD VIDEO/Video CD/SVCD).

!Infrared signal-emitting window

Point this window toward the remote sensor on the front panel when pressing buttons.

@STANDBY/ON button (23) Turns the unit on or off (standby).

#CANCEL button (32, 43)

Cancels the last programmed selection in the Program mode.

$MENU button (26)

Displays a DVD menu on the TV screen.

%ENTER button

Executes the selected item in a menu or on-screen display.

^DISPLAY button (39)

Displays the status information (only for DVD disc) or the time information (for any types of discs).

&¢/NEXT button (24, 25, 27, 42)

Skips forward a chapter, title or track. Also used for the page selection of a menu screen (for DVD VIDEO/Video CD/SVCD).

Holding down this button during playback advances playback rapidly (except MP3 CD).

*8/STROBE button (24, 30, 42)

Pauses playback. Also, used to display nine continuous still pictures (STROBE function).

Starts playback. Also used as a SELECT button for PBC of Video CDs/SVCDs.

Pressing this button during playback advances playback rapidly (except MP3 CD).

With an MP3 CD disc, pressing this button skips forward a Group.

Pressing this button while a DVD VIDEO, Video CD or SVCD disc is paused advances playback slowly.

_THEATER POSITION button (38)

Selects a picture character from 4 options (for DVD VIDEO/Video CD/SVCD).

+AUDIO button (37)

Selects the audio (for DVD VIDEO/Video CD/SVCD).

¡ZOOM button (31)

Zooms in the picture (for DVD VIDEO/Video CD/SVCD).

ANGLE button (35, 36)

Changes camera angles during playback of a DVD VIDEO disc containing multiple camera angles (for DVD VIDEO).
