If there’s no picture on your TV, the TV system (PAL/ NTSC) setting on the DV-SP406 may be different to the TV system supported by your TV.

In this case, press and hold down [ ] (Pause) on the DV-SP406 or remote controller to switch between PAL and NTSC. The North American model is fixed at NTSC, so pressing [ ] (Pause) has no effect.

Note:

Settings changed while the unit is On are saved to memory when the unit is set to Standby. If the unit’s power cord is unplugged while the unit is still On, any changed settings will not be saved. Be aware of this when the unit is connected to a switched AC outlet on another component.

If the language selection menu doesn’t appear, make sure the TV system setting (PAL, NTSC) (see page 20).

Adjust the language settings

Menu Language – Select a language for the Setup menu and on-screen display.

Disc Audio/Subtitle/Menu – Select a language for the Disc Audio/Subtitle/Menu.

[Original]: Refers to the original language in which the disc was recorded.

[Other]: To select another language, press num- ber buttons then ENTER to enter the corresponding 4-digit number according to the language code list (see page 33). If you make a mistake while entering number, press CLEAR to delete num- bers then correct it.

[Off] (for Disc Subtitle): Turn off Subtitle.

Adjust the display settings

TV Aspect – Select which screen aspect to use based on the shape of your TV screen.

[4:3]: Select when a standard 4:3 TV is con- nected.

[16:9]: Select when a 16:9 wide TV is con- nected.

Display Mode – If you selected 4:3, you’ll need to define how you would like widescreen programs and films to be displayed on your TV screen.

[Letterbox]:

This displays a wide- screen picture with black bands at the top and bot- tom of the screen.

[Panscan]:

This fills the entire 4:3 screen, cropping the pic- ture as necessary.
