ATSC/DIGITAL SOUND MENU CONTROLS

SURROUND SOUND

The Surround Sound control option allows you to select the

type of sound mode sent to the

DPTV’s speaker system.

BEGIN

1Select the ATSC Sound Menu.

With DTV Main Menu on-screen,

move the highlight with the MENU

▲▼ buttons. Then press the

MENU (or ok) button.

2 Press the MENU ▲▼ buttons

to select the Surround Mode

control.

Surround Mode -

Dolby Digital 5.1 sound is processed normally

directing discrete channel audio sound to 6 speakers

(DPTV Front Right/Center/Left speakers; two rear

Surround speakers; and one Subwoofer low

For any two channel plain stereo audio (arriving

within the ATSC Dolby Digital carrier signal) the

DPTV processes the audio to play standard stereo in

the Left/Right Front DPTV speakers only.

Stereo Mode -

Left/Right audio input signals are directed to the DPTV’s two front L/R speakers.

ATSC Dolby Digital multichannel sound signals are downmixed to two channels and sent to the Front Left/Right DPTV speakers.

DOLBY DIGITAL SURROUND

In order to receive the full reproduction capability of true

Dolby Digital Surround Sound you require the proper use and arrangement of a Subwoofer and surround speakers. The DPTV’s extra speaker connections make it

possible to create a multichannel

soundfield effect previously

available only within a movie

theater or concert hall. With the

new 5.1 discrete digital channel

surround sound system the listener

can now attain a true soundstage

Ask your dealer about subwoofer and surround sound speakers suggested for use with your DPTV.

Left/Right Front External speakers can be used in substitution for the DPTV internal cabinet speakers if desired. (See the “Front Speakers Switch” note in the section to the left for an explanation.)

Subwoofer speaker connections are available on the rear of the DPTV for either powered, or non-powered, types of optional Subwoofer speakers. Contact your Philips dealer for further details on Dolby Digital Surround Sound system speakers and their use.
