THE A1001

The A1001 CLASS A SUPER INTEGRATED AMPLIFIER was conceived as a very powerful integrated amplifier of the highest quality, inter- nally structured as fully separate preamp and monobloc power amp stages. The separation of the pre and power-amp stages allow them to be fully optimised for their specific func- tions. In addition this ensures total freedom from intermodulation and other distortions and noise that can occur when these circuits are combined. The preamp and each power amp stage are built on separate PCBs with separate power supplies and a separate magneti- cally sheilded mains transformer each.

By packaging the unit as an inte- grated amplifier we were then able to provide perfect interconnection between these stages, particularly as regards the crucial earth return currents, and re- move any need for potentially sound degrading interconnects whilst also giving a more compact amplifier solu- tion.

All signal circuitry in the A1001 is fully discrete, no I.C.s are used, all circuitry has been designed 'from the ground up' specifically for the A1001.

LOUDSPEAKERS

To get the best from your A1001 for a realistic soundstage and full dy- namic range, use it with loudspeakers of a reasonable efficiency. An average rating for a loudspeaker these days is about 88dB. This should mean that for an input of 1 watt, measured at 1 metre distance, the sound output will be 88dB. This is actually a reasonably loud sound, and much daily listening will not use much more power than this. Note that changing to a pair of speakers with a rating of 91dB is equivalent to

doubling the power of your amplifier.

SWITCH ON

When you switch on the A1001 the unit will initially be in a muted state for a few seconds to allow the circuits to stabi- lise and to prevent any switch-on thumps etc. The volume control position indicator LED will then light when the unit becomes active. Note - if you mute the A1001 with the remote control before you switch it off you will then need to un-mute the unit with the remote after switching on.

CONNECTIONS

All connections should be made with the power OFF.

The A1001 has 6 line level inputs - CD, Tuner, Aux 1,2 and 3 and Tape. All inputs are electrically identical and are suitable for use with any source compo- nent with an output voltage in the hundreds of millivolts (mV). This includes CD play- ers, tuners, tape machines and the audio outputs of video recorders, televisions, DVD and LaserDisc players etc. Enthusi- asts who wish to use a turntable should purchase an external phono stage such as the Musical Fidelity X-LP. We recom- mend that you use good quality screened interconnects such as the Musical Fidelity X-LINX for all connections. Do not use un-screened interconnect cables as they have inferior performance and in some cir- cumstances can actually damage the unit.

TAPE RECORDING

The A1001 has a single tape circuit with facilities for off-tape monitoring with 3-head cassette decks. Connection of your tape machine to the A1001 should be as follows. The tape machine's Tape/Line out- puts go to the A1001's 'Tape' input sock- ets.
