La bande (ou ligne) grise Grayline→ vous permet de distinguer les échos faibles des échos prononcés. Vous pouvez ainsi différencier un fond dur d'un fond mou. Par exemple, un fond mou, boueux ou couvert d'herbes, renvoie un signal faible accompagné d'une bande grise étroite ou inexistante. Un fond dur renvoie un signal puissant produisant une bande grise plus large.

Si vous visualisez deux signaux de même intensité, l’un avec du gris et l'autre sans, la cible accompagnée de la bande grise renvoie l’écho le plus fort. On peut ainsi distinguer les herbes des arbres sur le fond, ou les poissons des structures.

La Bande Grise est ajustable. Puisque la bande grise indique la diffé- rence entre des échos faibles et des échos forts, le réglage de la sensibil- té peut également nécessiter un niveau de réglage de la Bande Grise différent. Le niveau choisi par le sondeur lors de sa mise sous tension convient habituellement à la plupart des situations. Familiarisez-vous avec votre appareil pour déterminer le réglage de la bande grise le mieux adapté à votre utilisation.
