Learning directly from other remote controls

If preset codes are not available for your component(s), or the available preset codes do not work, you can use this method to teach the remote each command separately.

You can also use this operation to program additional commands for a component not covered in the preset codes.

1Press and hold REMOTE SETUP for three seconds.

The LED at the top of the remote blinks twice.

2Press the MULTI CONTROL button for the component you want to control.

For example, press VIDEO V-1to program a command from a VCR connected to the Video 1 inputs/outputs.

3Using the number buttons, enter 975.

The LED flashes rapidly to indicate that the remote is in Learning Setup mode and ready to learn new commands from another remote.

The remote will exit Learning Setup after 10 seconds if no commands are entered.

To cancel Learning Setup here, press REMOTE SETUP.

4Press the MULTI CONTROL button again for the component you want to control.

5Press the button on this systemÕs remote that you want to learn a new command.

For example, press 3.

The illustration left shows the buttons that can be used to learn commands.

6Point the remotes towards each other, about 2-5 cm (1-2 inches) apart.

7Press the button on the other componentÕs remote for the command you want to program.

The LED on this system’s remote will go out and then blink twice when the command has been learned.

If the LED doesn’t start blinking, try varying the distance between the remotes, then press the button again.

Some commands from other remote controls cannot be learned, but in most cases the remotes just need to be moved closer together or farther apart.

If the LED starts to blink slowly, it may mean that no more commands can be learnt. If it is necessary to learn another command, first delete another learnt command— see the following page.

8Program additional commands for the same component as required.

Repeat steps 5 through 7.

9Program commands for other components as required.

Repeat steps 4 through 7.

10When youÕre done, press REMOTE SETUP to exit Learning Setup mode.
