Before you begin

McAfee distributes VirusScan software in two ways:

1As an archived file that you can download from the McAfee web site.

2On CD-ROM.

Although the method you use to transfer VirusScan files from an archive obtained via download differs from the method you use to transfer files from a CD that is placed in your CD-ROM drive, the installation steps followed after that are the same for both distribution types. Review the system requirements shown below to verify that VirusScan software will run on your system.

System requirements

To install this product, you require the following:

Desktop and notebook computers

To use McAfee VirusScan Home Edition you need:

nWindows 98, Windows Me, Windows 2000 Professional, Windows XP Home Edition, or Windows XP Professional.

nInternet Explorer 4.01, Service Pack 2 or higher required; IE 5.01 or later recommended.

n55 megabytes (MB) of hard disk space required.

n32 MB of RAM.

nAn Intel Pentium-class or compatible processor rated at 100 MHz or higher.

nCD-ROM drive.

nTo take full advantage of your McAfee product's Instant Updater feature, you should have an Internet connection, either through your local-area network, or via modem and an Internet service provider.
