Adding new handsets

Your telephone can accommodate up to four cordless handsets. You can add a new handset (E597-2, purchased separately) to the E5943B at any time, but each handset must be registered with the base before use.

The E5943B has three handsets automatically registered as handset 1, 2 and 3. You can register one additional handset, which will be assigned as number 4.

The E5944B has four pre-registered handsets.You cannot register any additional handsets.

Before using a new E597-2 handset, you must regis- ter it with the base.

To add a new handset:

When first purchased, all optional accessory handsets show NOT REGISTERED on the screen.

Make sure your handset battery is properly installed and charged.

Put the handset in a cradle which is plugged into AC power. After a few seconds PRESS HNDST LOC 4 SEC ON BASE will be shown on the screen.

Press and hold HANDSET LOCATOR /INTERCOM on the main telephone base until the IN USE light comes on (about four seconds), then release the button.

The handset will show PLEASE WAIT... for a while.

The handset will show HS X REGISTERED and beep once if registration was successful.

NOTES:

1.If you are on a call, using the call log or directory, or another phone on the same line, you cannot register a handset.

2.If the registration is not successful the display will show NOT REGISTERED. Reset the handsets by lifting the handset out of their cradle and then place the handset back in the cradle.

3.You can register only one handset to the base at a time.
