General Radio Operation

Zones and Channels

A zone is a grouping of channels. A channel is a group of radio char- acteristics, such as transmit/receive frequency pairs.

Before you use your radio to receive or send messages, you should select the zone.

Select a Zone

1 If a control on your radio has

 

been preprogrammed as the

 

Zone switch, move the Zone

 

switch to the position for the

 

zone you want.

 

 

 

2 If the zone you selected is

• Long, medium-pitched tone

unprogrammed, you hear a

 

long, medium-pitched tone

 

until you select a

 

programmed zone.

 

 

 

Select a Channel

1 After you selected the zone you want, turn the preprogrammed Channel Selector switch to the desired channel.

2 If the channel you selected is • Long, medium-pitched tone unprogrammed, you hear a

long, medium-pitched tone until you select a programmed channel.
