Squelch | Special electronic circuitry added to the |
| receiver of a radio which reduces, or |
| squelches, unwanted signals before they are |
| heard in the speaker. |

Standby | An operating condition whereby the radio’s |
| speaker is muted but still continues to receive |
| data. |
|
|
| The user will talk on the channel that was |
| selected before the radio entered the |
| emergency state. |
|
|
Talkaround | Bypass a repeater and talk directly to another |
| unit for easy local |
| communications. |
|
|
Talkgroup | An organization of radio users who |
| communicate with each other. |
|
|
Trunking | The automatic sharing of communications |
| paths between a large number of users. (See |
| Conventional.) |

|
Zone | A grouping of channels. |
