Organizing and Transferring Your Music

For instructions for getting started playing music on iPod, see “Setting Up iPod to Play Music” on page 10. Read on for more information about organizing and transferring your music.

About iTunes

iTunes is the software application you use to manage the music on your computer and transfer music to iPod. When you connect iPod to your computer, iTunes opens automatically.

Here are some of the things you can do with iTunes:

Purchase and download songs from the iTunes Music Store

Listen to CDs and digital music

Add music from CDs to your music library, so you don’t need to have the CD in the drive to play music

Organize songs into playlists you create

Make your own CDs (if your computer has a CD-writable optical drive)

Listen to Internet radio stations

This booklet explains how to transfer songs to iPod using iTunes and manage songs on iPod. For information about using the other features of iTunes, open iTunes and choose Help > iTunes and Music Store Help.
