Troubleshooting
WARNING

PROBLEM
Engine won’t start
Engine operates, but dis- placement pump does not operate
CAUSE
Engine switch is OFF
Engine is out of gas
Engine oil level is low
Spark plug cable is disconnected or damaged
Cold engine
Fuel shutoff lever is OFF
Oil is seeping into combustion chamber
Pressure control switch is OFF
Pressure setting is too low
Fluid filter (318) is dirty
Tip or tip filter is clogged
Displacement pump piston rod is stuck due to dried paint
Roller bearings are worn or damaged
Drive housing is worn or damaged
Electrical power is not energizing clutch field
Clutch is worn or damaged
Pinion assembly is worn or damaged
SOLUTION
Turn engine switch ON
Refill gas tank. Honda Engines Owner’s Manu- al.
Try to start engine. Replenish oil, if necessary. Honda Engines Owner’s Manual.
Connect spark plug cable or replace spark plug
Use choke
Move lever to ON position
Remove spark plug. Pull starter rope 3 or 4 times. Clean or replace spark plug. Try to start engine. Keep sprayer upright to avoid oil seep- age.
Turn pressure control switch ON.
Turn pressure adjusting knob clockwise to increase pressure.
Clean filter. Page 22.
Clean tip or tip filter. Manual 307614.
Repair pump. Manual 308798.
Replace connecting rod. Page 7.
Replace drive housing. Page 7.
Check wiring connections. Page 11. Reference control board diagnostics. Page 14.
With pressure control switch ON and pressure turned to MAXIMUM, use a test light to check for power between clutch terminals on control board.
Remove black clutch wires from control board and measure resistance across wires. At 70_ F, the resistance must be between 1.7 ±0.2Ω; if not, replace clutch coil 241121.
Check control board fuse. If blown, replace with equivalent automotive fuse.
Have pressure control checked by authorized Graco dealer.
