Algunos ingredientes de olor absorbidos por los filtros pueden separarse y descargarse a través de la salida de aire y resultar en un olor adicional. Dependiendo del entorno de uso, especialmente cuando el producto es utilizado en una condición significativamente más severa que un uso doméstico, este olor puede volverse fuerte en un período de tiempo más corto del esperado.

El purificador de aire está diseñado para quitar polvo y olor suspendido en el aire, pero no gases dañinos (por ejemplo, monóxido de carbono presente en el humo de cigarrillos). Si las fuentes de olor aún existen, no podrá eliminar el olor completamente (por ejemplo, olores de materiales de construcción y olores de mascotas).
