Changing the sound quality:

Sound Field Control

Press [SFC] ([HT990] [-SFC]).

FLAT: Cancel (no effect is added) (factory preset).

MOVIE: Use this mode when playing movie software.

SPORT: Simulates sound to make you feel like you are at a sports event.

MUSIC: Adds surround effects to stereo sources.

HEAVY: Adds punch to rock.

CLEAR: Clarifies higher sounds.

SOFT: For background music.

To check the current setting, press [SFC] ([HT990] [-SFC]).

MOVIE, SPORT and MUSIC are not available when Dolby Pro Logic II is on, or when playing a disc recorded with a multi-channel source.

You can adjust the volume of the surround speakers to get the best surround effect (page 35, Adjusting the volume of each speaker: Speaker level adjustments).

When MOVIE, SPORT or MUSIC is turned on, you can enjoy audio from your television in 5.1-channel surround sound (page 37).

Enhancing the sound from the center speaker: Center Focus

This applies to discs where the dialogue is recorded in the center channel.

You can make the sound of the center speaker seem like it is coming from within the television.

Press and hold [—C.FOCUS].

Each time you press and hold the button:

This does not work when Sound Field Control (MOVIE, SPORT or MUSIC) is turned on.

Enhancing the stereo sound: Dolby Pro Logic II

Dolby Pro Logic II is an advanced decoder that derives 5-channel surround (Left and Right Front, Center, Left and Right Surround) from stereo sound sources, whether or not it has been specifically Dolby Surround encoded.
