3 Fireplace Size Requirements

A. Minimum Fireplace Opening

Minimum fireplace opening requirements are shown in Figure 3.1.

The firebrick (refractory), glass doors, screen rails, screen mesh and log grates can be removed from a factory built firebox in order to gain minimum gas insert opening requirements.

Ε Any smoke shelves, shields, baffles and the metal floor of the unit may be removed from a factory built firebox if attached with mechanical fasteners. If the appliance is placed on the base of the outer wrap, a ¼ inch airspace must be provided between the insert and the floor of the outer wrap.

Ε Cutting of any sheet metal parts of the fireplace in which the gas fireplace insert is to be installed is prohibited.
