FIREPLACE

Carefully select the proper location for heat circulation, aesthetics, chimney obstructions and clearance to side wall(s). With proper pre- planning, a slight adjustment of a few inches can save considerable time and expense later during construction and assembly.

Carefully consider the position of the fireplace opening with respect to the location of adjacent or nearby stairwells, bath or kitchen exhaust fans and/or return air registers for forced air furnaces/air conditioners that could cause a smoking fireplace condition if the house is tightly insulated.

HEARTH EXTENSION

NOTE: When the unit is raised 4 inches above the floor the Regency Hearth Extension (Part# 000-910) is not required. If you plan to raise the fireplace and hearth extension, build the plat- form assembly then position fireplace and hearth extension on top. If you are not raising the unit, check that you will have sufficient clearance under the bottom louver for your finishing material on top of the hearth exten- sion, i.e. tiles, concrete board, etc.

1)Insert the metal safety strip, packaged with the fireplace beneath the fireplace as illustrated below. The safety strip should be tacked down to prevent possible shift- ing and should overlap for continual cover- age of the floor.

Note: A safety strip is not required when the fireplace rests on a non-com- bustible surface.

Note: Install the hearth extension only as illustrated.

The safety strip should extend 2 in. (51 mm) in front and on the sides of the fireplace. In the event a wooden support is used to elevate the fireplace above the floor, a “Z” type safety strip should be fabricated from 20 gauge galvanized sheet steel and used to protect the front surface of the wood
