DESCRIPTION

The Edelbrock aluminum water pump is a heavy duty water pump for both street and racing applications. The pump is externally the same as original equipment pumps to provide compatibility with all accessories and pulleys. It offers weight savings along with increased durability and cooling potential.

#8850/#88502/#8860 is a short leg pump for 1965-68 passenger cars and 1967-72 light duty trucks, and 1969-70 Corvettes.

#8851/#88512/#8861 is a long leg design for 1969 & later passenger cars and 1973-86 light duty trucks with big-block Chevrolet V8s (will not fit Corvette or heavy duty trucks over 1-ton).

#8852/#8862 is a short leg design for 1971-74 Corvettes with big-block V8s.

#8853/#8863 is a reverse rotation, long leg design for 1988-94 light duty trucks with big-block Chevrolet V8s (will not fit heavy duty trucks over 1-ton).

#8854/#8864 is a reverse rotation, short leg pump for 1965-’87 Mark IV big-block Chevys with aftermarket serpentine belt pulleys. This pump is ideal for street rods with aftermarket serpentine belt pulleys

INSTALLATION

Installation is the same as for original equipment water pumps. Consult service manual for specific procedures, if necessary. CAUTION: Be sure that fan bolts don't protrude through the hub so far that they hit the water pump housing.

NOTE: Removal of backing plate is not recommended, as there are no user serviceable parts in the water pump. If backing plate is removed, use no sealer on the O-ring during re-installation,and use conventional gasket sealer (not RTV silicone) on gasketed models.

WARNING

Incorrect alignment or an unbalanced condition puts excessive strain on the pump's shaft and/or bearing and will result in early failure of the shaft and/or bearing. The balance of the assembly depends primarily upon the concentricity of the fan clutch with the pump shaft. Concentricity is not assured when universal type clutches are used. The universal fan clutch has a 3/4" pilot hole, so an adapter must be used when installing a water pump with a 5/8" shaft. This adapter bushing is supplied with the unit. These adapter bushings add to the machine tolerances of the assembly, so special care must be taken to maintain concentricity with the shaft and the fan clutch.

Edelbrock is a renowned brand in the automotive aftermarket, known for its high-performance components and innovative technologies. Among its notable offerings are the Edelbrock series of intake manifolds, specifically models 8860, 8863, 8861, 8853, and 8850. Each of these models is meticulously designed to enhance engine performance, efficiency, and overall horsepower.

The Edelbrock 8860 is designed for big block Chevy engines and features a dual-plane design that optimizes airflow at both low and high RPM ranges. Its advanced engineering allows for fine-tuned velocity and distribution of the air/fuel mixture, thus ensuring that each cylinder receives an optimal amount of mixture for combustion. This model is particularly favored for street performance applications where a broad power band is essential.

Similarly, the Edelbrock 8863 intake manifold also caters to big block Chevy engines but emphasizes high-RPM performance. With a more aggressive design, the 8863 provides significant horsepower gains at elevated RPMs, making it a popular choice among racers. This model’s open plenum design promotes a high flow rate, allowing for peak performance under race conditions.

The Edelbrock 8861 is tailored for small block Chevy engines and is designed to provide a perfect balance between low end torque and high-end power. Its lightweight construction and efficient design minimize weight while maximizing strength and durability. This manifold is ideal for enthusiasts looking for an upgrade that enhances throttle response while maintaining streetability.

Next in line is the Edelbrock 8853, another small block Chevy intake manifold that emphasizes versatility. This model is engineered for both street and performance applications, making it an all-around choice for drivers seeking a reliable boost in horsepower. Its unique design improves air distribution, resulting in smoother performance and better fuel efficiency.

Finally, the Edelbrock 8850 presents an exceptional option for small block Ford engines. With a design focused on maximizing airflow, the 8850 intake manifold enhances engine breathing, thereby fostering a significant increase in horsepower and torque. This model exemplifies Edelbrock's commitment to quality and performance, making it a favored choice among Ford enthusiasts.

Each of these models reflects Edelbrock's dedication to innovative design and engineering excellence, catering to a wide range of performance needs. Whether for street driving, racing, or overall engine enhancement, these intake manifolds are synonymous with quality, reliability, and an exhilarating driving experience.
