Suitable cookware for microwave ovens

Exceptions:

Ready-made meals in aluminum foil trays

can be defrosted and reheated in the microwave oven. Important: Remove the lid and make sure the foil tray is at least 1" (2.5 cm) from the oven walls at all times.

Since food will only be heated from the top in this case, it is better to remove it from the aluminum foil tray and transfer it to a microwave safe cookware. The heat distribution will then be more even.

When using aluminum foil trays, crackling and arcing can occur.

Make sure that the aluminum foil is at least 1" (2.5 cm) from the oven walls at all times. It may not touch the walls.

– Metal meat skewers or clamps

These should only be used if they are very small in comparison to the size of the cut of meat.

Glassware

Heat-resistant glass or ceramic glass are ideal for use with microwave power.

Crystal glassware is unsuitable because it contains lead which could cause the glass to crack in the microwave oven.

Porcelain

Porcelain is a suitable material.

Do not use porcelain that has metal trim, such as a gold edge, or hollow knobs or handles.

Earthenware

Decorated earthenware is only suitable if the decoration is beneath the glaze.

Earthenware can get very hot.

Glazes and colors

Some glazes and colors contain metal substances.

This makes the dishes they cover unsuitable for use in the microwave oven.

Wood

Wooden containers are not suitable. Moisture contained in the wood evaporates during the cooking process, causing the wood to dry and crack.
