The only way to determineif anelementis groundedor shortedis to disconnectall wires from the element.Checkacrossthe leadsfor theresistancereadingandfrornoneleadto groundfor a shorted element.With an ampclip meter,checkthe griddlegroundwire to seeif thereis any indicationof current.If so,thisis a goodindicationof a groundedelement.Checkto seeif full power canberead whenplacingthevolt meterfromoneelementpowerleadto theelementcase.Keepin mind thatmany groundedor shortedelementproblemsmayNOT occurunlesstheelementis upto operatingtempera- ture. Oncetheelementis upto operatingtemperaturetheelementcanbe checkedwith an ohmmeter afterdisconnectingpowerto thegriddleanddisconnectingoneelementleadfromthepowerdistribu- tion. Checkcontinuitythroughtheelementfor opencirciutsand/orgroundfaultsandfrorn theelement leadto groundfor shortcircuits.
