System Security
The System Security sub-menu allows you to safeguard your computer and data with passwords and other
security measures.
The following table describes the parameters in this screen. Settings in boldface are the default and
suggested parameter settings.

Setting a Password

Follow these steps:
Use the cursor up/down keys to highlight a Password parameter (Setup, Power-on or Hard Disk)
and press the Enter key. The password box appears:
Type a password. The password may consist of up to seven characters (A-Z, a-z , 0- 9).
IMPORTANT:Be very careful when typing your password because the characters do not appear on the
screen.
Press Enter. Retype the password to verify your first entry and press Enter.
After setting the password, the computer automatically sets the chosen password parameter to Present.
Three password types protect your computer from unauthorized access. Setti ng these passwords creates
several different levels of protection for your computer and data:
Parameter Description Options
Setup Password When set, this passwor d protects the computer
and this BIOS Utility from unauthorized entry.

to set a password.
Disabled or Enabled
Power-on Password When set, this password p rotects the computer
from unauthorized entry. See th e following
section for instructions on how to set a password.
Disabled or Enabled
Hard Disk Password When set, this password protects the hard disk
from unauthorized access . See the following
section for instructions on how to set a password.
Disabled or Enabled
Processor Serial Number The Pentium III processor includes a unqiue
serial number which all ows individual CPUs to be
identified. You can turn off this feat ure by setting
this parameter to Disabled.
