2Extract the offline_bundle.zip from the ISO image.

3Use the Data Browser in the vSphere Client to upload the ZIP file that was extracted from the ISO to your ESX host.

Note

Alternatively, you can use a program like WinSCP to upload the file directly to your ESX host. However, it requires root privileges to the host to perform the upload.

4Log in to the ESX host as root directly from the Service Console or through an SSH Client.

5Place the ESX host in Maintenance Mode from the vSphere Client.

6Run this command from the Service Console or your SSH Client to install the bundled package:

esxupdate --bundle=<name of bundled zip> update

7When the package has been installed, reboot the ESX host by typing reboot from the Service Console.

VMware ESX 3.5

For ESX Server 4.0 please refer to VMware ESX 4 on page 15

Note

8 & 4Gb Celerity PCIe support only. PCIx cards are not supported.

Creating and using the Driver CD.

1Download the correct driver .iso file from the VMware Drivers & Tools Download site.

2Write the .iso image to a CD-ROM.

3Use the CD-ROM as a Boot CD or an Update CD.

Driver CD as a Boot CD Only

Note

The following procedure describes how to use the driver CD as a boot CD. Use this CD as a boot CD only if the new driver must enable the target device on which ESX Server 3.5 will be installed.

1Place the driver CD in the CD-ROM drive of the host machine.

7After ESX Server is installed and the system reboots, log in to ESX Server.

8Verify that the driver is installed successfully:

a.Run the esxupdate query command. A message containing the information about the driver appears.

b.View the PCI ID XML file in the /etc/vmware/pciid/ directory. The driver information is available in the file.

c.Check for the latest version of the driver module in the following directory:

/usr/lib/vmware/vmkmod/

d.To verify that the driver is loaded and functioning, enter vmkload_mod -lcommand. The driver is listed in the displayed list.

Driver CD as an Update CD Only

Note

The following procedure describes how to use the driver CD to update or add the driver on an existing ESX Server 3.5.

2Start the host machine.

3When prompted for an upgrade or installation, press Enter for graphical mode.

4Choose the language you prefer.

5Select a keyboard type.

6After you are prompted to swap the driver CD with the ESX Server installation CD, insert the ESX Server 3.5 installation CD and continue with ESX Server installation.

1Start the ESX Server machine and log in to service console as root.

2Place the driver CD in the CD-ROM drive of the server.

3Mount the driver CD.

4Change the directory to the VMupdates/RPMS/ on the driver CD.

FC-81EN, FC-82EN, FC-84EN specifications

ATTO Technology's FC-82EN is a 16Gb Fibre Channel HBA (Host Bus Adapter) that provides high-performance connectivity for storage area networks. Designed for use with both Windows and Linux operating systems, the FC-82EN is ideal for enterprises seeking to optimize data transfer rates and reduce latency for mission-critical applications.

One of the key features of the FC-82EN is its support for 16Gb Fibre Channel, which doubles the bandwidth from previous generations, allowing for faster data transfers. This is particularly beneficial in environments with heavy I/O workloads, such as virtualized data centers and large databases. With its backward compatibility, users can seamlessly integrate the FC-82EN into existing Fibre Channel networks that operate at 4Gb and 8Gb speeds, ensuring flexibility and protecting existing investments.

The FC-82EN employs advanced technologies to enhance performance and reliability. It incorporates ATTO's proprietary Advanced Data Streaming (ADS) technology, which optimizes data flow between the host system and storage devices. By minimizing processing overhead and maximizing throughput, ADS ensures that data-intensive applications run smoothly. Additionally, the HBA features a built-in intelligent caching mechanism to help manage data transfer and reduce bottlenecks.

Another significant characteristic of the FC-82EN is its support for multipathing, which enhances availability and load balancing across multiple paths in a storage network. This feature is crucial in distributed systems where uptime is critical, as it helps to prevent single points of failure and effectively utilizes available resources.

For manageability and ease of use, the FC-82EN includes ATTO's configurable driver and management software, providing users with a comprehensive suite of tools for monitoring performance, configuring settings, and troubleshooting issues. The adapter also supports end-to-end error detection and recovery protocols, ensuring data integrity throughout the transfer process.

In summary, the ATTO Technology FC-82EN is a robust and versatile Fibre Channel HBA that meets the demanding requirements of modern data environments. With its high-speed capabilities, advanced technologies, and strong management features, the FC-82EN is an excellent choice for organizations looking to enhance their storage network performance and reliability.
