Electronic Compass Operation
While the unit is powered on, the electronic compass is always operational. Whenever outside magnetic interference is compromising accuracy, the direction arrow remains stationary. This may occur if there is a significant change in the surrounding magnetic fields caused by driving underneath an overpass or across a bridge. A blinking compass icon indicates compass calibration is required. The compass must be calibrated whenever the following conditions prevail:
1.When the compass is used for the first time.
2.When the compass is used in a different location other than where previously calibrated.
3.When magnetic distortion occurs.
4.When the batteries are replaced.
5.When the batteries are low.
Electronic Compass Calibration
To calibrate the compass, proceed as follows:
-With the unit powered off, press the EMG button. Simultaneously, while holding the EMG button, press and hold the Power On/Off button for approximately 3 seconds; CAL will appear on the display.
