TROUBLESHOOTING

 

 

 

 

 

 

ENGINE WILL NOT START

 

 

C A U S E

 

A C T I O N

Empty fuel tank

 

Fill fuel tank with new fuel

Primer bulb wasn't pressed enough

 

Press primer bulb fully and slowly 10 times

Engine is flooded

 

Squeeze the trigger and pull the starter rope

Old fuel

 

Drain gas tank and add fresh fuel

Fouled spark plug

 

Replace the spark plug

Plugged spark arrestor

 

Clean or replace spark arrestor

The outside temperature is below 40º F

 

Pull the starter rope up to 10-15 times

The outside temperature is above 90º F

 

Squeeze the throttle control and pull the starter rope

 

 

 

ENGINE WILL NOT IDLE

A C T I O N

Air filter is plugged

Replace or clean the air filter

Old fuel

Drain gas tank and add fresh fuel

Improper carburetor adjustment

Adjust according to the Carburetor Adjustments section

 

 

ENGINE WILL NOT ACCELERATE

C A U S E

A C T I O N

Old fuel

Drain gas tank and add fresh fuel

Improper carburetor adjustment

Take to a Sears Parts & Repair center or other qualified

 

service dealer for an adjustment

Dirty air filter

Clean or replace the air filter

Plugged spark arrestor

Clean or replace spark arrestor

 

 

ENGINE LACKS POWER OR STALLS WHEN UNDER LOAD

C A U S E

A C T I O N

Old fuel

Drain gas tank and add fresh fuel

Improper carburetor adjustment

Take to a Sears Parts & Repair center or other qualified

 

service dealer for an adjustment

Fouled spark plug

Replace the spark plug

Plugged spark arrestor

Clean or replace spark arrestor

Cultivator tines bound with debris

Stop the unit, switch the On/Off Stop Control to

 

STOP, clean and remove any debris binding the tines

 

 

UNIT OCCASIONALLY HESITATES AT HIGH SPEEDS

C A U SE

A C T I O N

Spark plug gap is too small/close

Adjust gap to 0.020 inch (0.50 mm)
